LANGUAGE LITERACY AND NUMERACY (LLN)
As part of the application process, we will require you to complete a short Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test. This is to identify any support you may require for your study and to confirm the level of your technology skills required for online training. The testing process is not about excluding you from the course. All aspects of your application will be managed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
Language, literacy, and numeracy skills are essential for nearly all job sectors. This is especially relevant in many vocations where these skills affect the execution of workplace tasks such as measuring, weighing, and understanding written work instructions. To support this approach, Australian Work Skill will:
- Evaluate a learner’s language, literacy, and numeracy skills during their enrolment to ensure they possess the requisite skills to complete the training via an LLN form
- Assist learners during their studies with training and assessment materials and methods that are comprehensible and appropriate for the level of workplace skills being imparted;
- Provide clear details to learners regarding the available language, literacy, and numeracy assistance. Australian Work Skill typically recommends the LLN training courses provided by TAFE, which have specialist educators to aid the learner’s progress.
- Direct learners to external language, literacy, and numeracy support services when the support needed goes beyond what is available within Australian Work Skill and is assessed as necessary; and
- Arrange an extension of time to complete training programs if required.
Once you’ve successfully filled out the enrolment form, undergone the Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) assessment, and participated in an interview with AWS, we will provide you with a comprehensive training plan. This plan will detail your course start date and expected end date. Additionally, your username and login details will be sent to you via email. The duration of this process may vary, typically taking around a week, contingent upon the promptness of responses from both you and, if applicable, your employer.
To guarantee a seamless beginning to your learning experience, we may speak with you over the phone every two weeks during your first six-week onboarding period.
After the onboarding process, if you have been making good progress, we will follow up over the phone every month or every six-weeks to see how you are doing.
In the event that we have concerns about your progress, we will increase the frequency of contact to fortnightly phone calls.
Should your progress suggest that you may encounter difficulties finishing the course on schedule, we will stay in touch with you on a weekly or more frequent basis to offer extra assistance.
In the event that we are unable to contact you by phone, we will also communicate crucial information to you via email.
In cases where urgent communication is required, we will use SMS if you are not responding to our attempts to get in touch.
For those enrolled in a Traineeship or employer-sponsored course, we may also contact your supervisor by phone and email if we have concerns about your progress or notice the exceptional quality of your work. We value your preferences, so if you find that you are progressing ahead of schedule and prefer less frequent contact, please feel free to let us know. We are here to tailor our support to your individual needs.
The following serves as a rough guide, offering insight into the weekly time allocation necessary for your formal studies:
- For Certificate III, anticipate dedicating around 3 to 4 hours each week.
- For Certificate IV, plan on investing approximately 4 to 5 hours per week.
With that said this all depend on each individual and their personal circumstances and capabilities.
