Support for Learners with Vision Needs
There have been great advancements in assistive technologies to support individuals with vision impairments.
Today, most computers and smart devices come equipped with built-in features to assist with visual accessibility.
While we are unable to directly access or modify a learner’s personal device, we are often able to guide them toward helpful resources that explain how to adjust their settings for a more accessible and comfortable learning experience.
Vision Australia provides a helpful guide on using assistive technology in Windows-based systems, including how to increase text size, modify colour settings, and more. You can explore their resources here: https://www.visionaustralia.org/technology-products/resources/using-technology
Hearing-Related Support Needs
At Australian Work Skill (AWS), we understand that every learner is unique — and we’re committed to ensuring our learning environment is inclusive and supportive.
While most of our course materials are delivered in text format, we also incorporate videos as part of the learning experience. Wherever possible, we select video resources that include captioning or written transcripts. However, we acknowledge that not all video content may have these features.
Fortunately, modern technology and AI-based tools can convert audio and video content into text, offering valuable support to students with hearing-related needs. If you’re unfamiliar with these tools, our team is happy to provide guidance and suggestions to help you access and benefit from them.
If you require special consideration due to a hearing-related support need, we can make reasonable adjustments to how we communicate with you and, in some cases, modify assessment tasks to better suit your needs.
We are also happy to support students who prefer to engage through the National Relay Service (NRS) — a free and confidential service that assists with phone conversations, coaching sessions, and skills checks. The NRS can even join live online meetings to provide real-time captioning or sign language support.

Mental Health Support at AWS
At Australian Work Skill, we recognise that mental health is a broad and deeply personal area that includes emotional, psychological, and social well-being. Just as mental health challenges can arise from a wide range of internal and external factors, the support strategies must also be diverse and flexible.
We understand that no two learners are the same, and mental health needs can vary significantly from person to person. If you are experiencing a mental health concern that hasn’t been addressed in the earlier sections of this page, we encourage you to share this with us — either during the onboarding process or at any point throughout your course when you feel additional support may be helpful.
At AWS, we draw on a combination of experience, feedback, and research-informed practices to support learners with mental health needs. Over time, we’ve developed and adapted several strategies specifically to assist students in our online and distance learning environment.
These approaches are designed to be practical, compassionate, and focused on promoting a safe, supportive, and positive training experience.
Support for Students Living with Depression & Anxiety
At Australian Work Skill (AWS), we understand that both depression and anxiety can have a significant impact on a student’s ability to concentrate, stay motivated, and engage in learning.
While depression is often characterised by persistent feelings of sadness, fatigue, and disinterest in daily activities, anxiety may present as excessive worry, restlessness, difficulty focusing, or a sense of overwhelm — especially when facing deadlines or new situations. These challenges can affect how a student interacts with their course content, assessments, and support systems.
We know that mental health experiences are different for everyone. That’s why AWS takes a flexible, compassionate, and personalised approach to supporting our learners. Whether you need extra time, clearer communication, regular check-ins, or adjustments to assessment tasks, we’re here to work with you.
Our strategies are informed by student feedback, industry best practices, and expert recommendations, and they’re tailored to suit the unique needs of our online and distance learners.

The Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) is the national workplace relations body that provides free advice and information to help you understand your workplace entitlements, including pay, leave, working hours, and protections against unfair treatment.
At Australian Work Skill, we encourage all students, especially those in traineeships or employment, to be informed and empowered. If you ever feel unsure about your rights or responsibilities in the workplace, the FWO is a trusted source for guidance and support.
